Your Online Business And The Value Of Holidays

Let me ask you a question – do you continually think about your online business when you are off on holiday?I’m going off on holiday next week.I’m travelling with my wife, my oldest son and his fiancĂ© and my youngest son.
We are not flying off to some exotic shore but driving to Aviemore in the Highlands of Scotland to our Holiday Cottage.I love it up there in the peace and solitude of the mountains and if the weather is good then there is no finer holiday destination… in my humble opinion.Walking, cycling and playing a few rounds of golf. It is great just to relax and unwind.
Hopefully, you’ll have had some time to relax and unwind. When you do get the chance to go on holiday is your online business there with you?You may have switched off completely and not given it a thought. However, if you’re like me, you may think about your online business in a different way during the holidays. Not being in ‘work mode’ often gives us a different perspective on our online business. What do I mean by that?Well, think about a normal working week – whether that’s working full time on your online business or, more likely, trying to fit it in amongst the ‘day job’ and a myriad other commitments. Then, you’re focussed on completing the next task on your list – writing an article or a blog post, setting up your autoresponder sequence etc. There’s always the pressure of knowing that something else in your online business needs to be done. There seems to be very little time to stand back, reflect and think strategically or creatively about your online business. It feels like you’re on a hamster wheel – constantly expending energy but without making much progress.Holidays allow you to step off the wheel and get some perspective. The brain is an amazing organ – when you’re switched off from your online business you often find that new ideas come into your mind.I’ve had the experience of grappling with a problem for several weeks and then, when I’m relaxed and not even thinking about it, the solution just comes to me. A great result! The learning point here is that we need to be ready to capture those experiences. The solutions and thoughts can disappear just as easily as they appeared.I don’t know if this has happened to you – you get a great idea but the next minute you’ve forgotten what it was! It could be an age thing, of course. So here’s my holiday tip – always have a means of capturing thoughts and ideas wherever you are. That could be a notebook and pen or it could be the voice recorder on your mobile phone.I’ve learned the hard way that you can never assume that you’ll remember all the ideas a few hours later. And then they’re gone forever. Now I want to be clear here – I’m not advocating that you deliberately try and think about your online business when you’re meant to be on holiday.Having a complete break and relaxing is a great way to recharge your batteries. But, when you get those great ideas make sure you can record them straight away. That will allow you to switch off again and enjoy your holiday and still keep your online business ticking over.
